This painting was inspired by childhood memories of growing up and watching my Grandmother (Oma) cook in her kitchen.
As a migrant from Holland, Oma always used to cook for a small army. Her kitchen was her happy place and there was always food for everyone to eat.
As a child it gave me comfort seeing her cooking happily, making freshly baked appeltaart and home made sauerkraut and jams in jars. Cooking was her way of showing love to her family.
“Grandmothers create memories that the heart holds forever.”
